Codes for Pioneer DVR-520HS (DVD Recorder)

Post by udaykrao »

I have a URC-8811 LEARNING JP1 remote and am looking for codes for a Pioneer DVD Recorder DVR-520HS. I do NOT have the original remote and therefore, am unable to teach my remote. I have followed the Code Search FAQ instructions and looked through the Device Code Folder but not found one for this device. If someone has the codes for this device, can they upload it? thanks. UK

As the 8811 is a rather new model remote, it is likely to have appropriate built-in codes for Pioneer DVDs. Device Codes DVD/0525 and DVD/0571 (look HERE) operate most Pioneer DVD players. Have you tried these?

They may not have EVERY function you desire (like recorder functions) mapped to buttons, or to buttons you want, but that should be a starting point for a device code that will work, and then you can search for additional functions HERE and elsewhere.

IIRC, the DVR uses a different command set from the DVD's

Here are the commands including discrete power commands that have een reported to work by several people. I don't have time right now to create a device upgrade but this should be all the information you need:

They are in the fomat of Device:OBC. Most commands are the two command variety.

I have created an upgrade based on the data that Jon posted. I haven't tested it so it's quite possible that I made some mistakes, but try it out: Pioneer DVD Recorder DVR-520HS

Thanks Rob,
I just got the DVR 520HS and this is very close and saves a lot of learning. I have a couple of questions.
A couple of buttons don't respond (D Navi/Top Menu and Home Menu for example) so I have learned those and am trying to check the entries.

You mention in the Protocol notes that you enter something"in the style column". My RemoteMaster (V1.04) screen does not have a style column. Where is that?

The learned data seems to match the data in the notes above in this thread, (though a "gap" piece also shows up) and you seemed to enter them the same (except I can't see a style column to check that), so I am struggling with why these two buttons don't work and I can't figure how to convert my learned signal to RM.

Any guidance you can offer is appreciated.

Rob's on vacation this week...

In KM, you select the style by entering a value in the byte2 column. KM's Protocol Help states:
Then on the Functions sheet, you indicate which style of signal to
use for each function. Do this by entering one of the following
values in the byte2 column:

0 = single-style signal (using device code 1)
1 = double-style signal (using dev1/cmd1 in the first half)
3 = double-style signal (using dev1/cmd2 in the first half)
RM implements this differently on its Functions tab. You select the proper style using the Prefix Device and Prefix Command drop-downs.

help...

Post by Jamin »

(note that I'm brand new to JP1 and I probably am just missing something here...)

I recently got the DVR-520HS also, and I loaded up Rob's upgrade into Keymap Master 8.30, changed the remote to the 6131, changed the device to PVR, copied the Device Upgrade Code (which opened up IR v5.15), added the copied device, and uploaded to my 6131.

The only buttons that work on it w/ the Pioneer are the Power button = play, Play = Pause; Fast Forward = Stop; Skip Chapter = Search forward? and Enter = Search (of some sort).

Any idea what I've done wrong?

NOT having replicated the steps you describe above, I note that you fail to mention going to the "Buttons" sheet and assigning the desired functions to the desired buttons. It is conceivable that when you shifted the remote to 6131, the difference in button maps is so great that your button assignments make little sense until you do this.

I'll check it again, but when I imported Rob's "Pioneer DVD Recorder DVR-520HS" text file into KM, it already had almost all of the buttons assigned to the right spot...

Best I can suggest is that you save the KM file, after you've made all of your changes, then save the IR file after you've copies the upgrade over, and then zip them both together and post the file in the Diagnosis Area.

Then post a link to the file here, after reading up on how to post links (in my sig).

Here ya go, Rob. Btw, when I saved the .IR, it also made a .txt file, which is linked also (if you need it):

zipped w/ the IR and KM files

direct links to individual files:

KM saved file
IR saved file
(text file created by IR when saving the IR file)

Looks like you installed the device upgrade, but didn't assign it to any device button. Your DVD button is still assigned setup code DVD/0631. It should be assigned setup code DVD/2000.

I manually assigned it after I programmed it. I also tried pre-assigning it -- both manual & pre-assigning caused the results I listed above.
