IR 5.10 Now Available

Post by StuartMW »

Nice, except that now no comments (at all) are saved to the IR file. I just added some comments for some learned keys and saved the IR file and now it contains nothing but a [Buffer] section. Fortunately I have backups.

I just tried it on three different files and all worked fine.

Ok, some more info. I'm running it on Win2K SP4. I don't have anything connected to the parallel port as all I want to do is update/add comments to the IR file.

In a Power User account all it does is what I said before--no comments saved whatsover. If I log into the Administrator account the comments are saved except for the Learned Signals one. Exactly the same thing happens on my Win98SE laptop.

Any ideas on why this would be occuring?

No idea. I've always been an administrator on my PCs

I don't suppose you want to try it in a non-admin account?

Nope. Let's wait and see what others say. Rob tried it yesterday with no problems. In fact there is a new file included in the zip with a full set of notes from Rob.

Just FYI, I was using it on a Win98SE machine.

IIRC, IR requires Admin rights for the port driver to work. However, an argument can be made for those who might want to use IR to create/edit files in a non-Admin environment, like when they're at work (on a break, of course! ;) ) and don't have Admin accounts. Of course, if it adds significant code and/or leads to other problems, maybe it's not warranted?

I guess it just needed me to log into the Admin account and then back to my Power User account because now its saving comments  It definitely wasn't before I logged into my Admin and back again.

Also, I discovered what I was doing wrong with the new Learned Signals notes field. When you first select the "Learned Signals" tab none of the learned keys are selected but you can happily type in a comment. Since that comment isn't associated with any key its not saved. The problem was that I didn't notice this  Ideally the first key entry should be selected when you go to that tab.

I got bit by that as well when I first tried it.

That would match the behaviour of the Devices and Protocols tabs; or the Notes field could be disabled if nothing is selected in the list.

Here's another minor glitch that's been in IR for a while (I'm not exactly sure how long it's been there):

If you open an existing IR file and do a Save As in order to change the name, the original filname is removed from the MRU list in the File menu and replaced by the new one. I'm not sure if that's a feature of Delphi or IR, but shouldn't both the old and the new name appear in the list?

I guess I never noticed that in the Learned tab the focus was not on the first item.

I also did not notice the issue with the MRU.

I'll take care of both of these in the next day or so.

As far as ADMIN stuff I'll need to look into that. Although I think it only affects the driver and nothing else.
