Vincent/ShengYa PreAmp/CD and Philips Projector

Post by netbuster »

It's been a while since my last post but after my last upgrade of my Hi-Fi equipment there is need for more help. I have a RS 15-2133 bought in the US which for some strange reason do not want to learn anything from any old remote I have.
I have now bought a PreAmp from Vincent/ShengYa called SA T1 and their CD player CD S10 (both made with tubes and produces a superb sound). I have went through and tested all the device codes for CD players without any luck. In addition to this a Philips DLP projector called Bogart Matchline LC7281 has also been bought. None of these do have any codes listed at Yahoo. Anyone out there that might have some idea what to do.
Many thanks in advance

I think the first thing you need to do is figure out why your Kameleon won't learn. Can you get it to learn anything? Forget about the old tube amp remotes for a moment, do you have any "normal" remotes (like a Sony TV remote, Panasonic VCR, etc, etc) does it learn those? If not, there's something wrong with the remote. If it does then the old tube amp remote is probably sending an unusual signal (which would not be surprising for an old remote) and the Kameleon is not equiped to handle it.

If you've already checked the Yahoo file section, have you also checked the Pronto file section over at Remote Central? If you can find a CCF file for any of these devices, we can work out the rest from there.

Rob, I completely agree with your advice to netbuster, but I think the Vincent devices are quite new although the preamp apparently uses vacuum tubes that are preferred by some audio enthusiasts. http://www.shengya-audio.com/mainenglish.htm is the English website. Vincent is apparently their export name. I looked to see if they had any information about their IR commands and didn't fiind any.

netbuster, save your file in IR do a 981 manufacturers reset, change batteries and try learning again.

Thanks to both of you for quick responses
Unfourtunately I've tried my Kameleon with all of my remotes without any luck and the thing is that a friend of mine also bought a RS Kameleon at the same time as me and he can't get it to learn anything either. And yes Jon, my Amps and PreAmp along with the CD player are quite new and recently bought from www.nysound.com. Perhaps I should try the reset you suggested. I can't see why there should be differences in learning between US/Eur but the pre set codes are different so maybe that is something which makes learning impossible. If I reset it can I make it into an European one?
All the best

You might also make sure that your learning technique is sound. The official manuals are very weak on this. Use these steps after you have saved your existing file

The 981 reset will make sure that some learned commands are not already in there of the EEPROM has been corrupted so as to make it think it's full.

Kameleon's eat batteries and you should change those if you are having learning problems. The OEM batteries should also be changed. It's not uncommon for new equipment to be shipped with bad batteries.

After you do that (from a post over at RC OFA forum from Rob for the URC-8811/8810W, I think the process will be the same for the Kameleon):

Here's the correct learning method...

1) Position the 2 remotes head-to-head
2) Press and hold the SET button, 2 flashes
3) Type 975, 2 flashes
4) Press the relevant device mode button (eg, TV, VCR, etc)
5) Press the URC-8810w button that you're programming. At this point the red LED will start flashing rapidly...
6) While it's still flashing, start pressing the button on your original remote. At this point the URC-8810w red LED will stop flashing, but KEEP PRESSING the original remote button until the URC-8810w's red LED gives 2 short flashes.
7) If you have more buttons to program, repeat steps 4 thru 6.
8) When you're finished, press and hold SET and wait for 2 more flashes.

There is no significant difference among Asian remotes, European remotes and North American remotes in the commands that they can learn. The only differences are the built in libraries.

There are commands (but not that many) that no OFA remote can learn, but Philps commands from your projector should be easily learned by any OFA remote with learning capability.
