Need help with Sony 895 receiver

I am trying to do a device upgrade for my sony 895 reciever. I have been able to do a few commands like change inputs, discrete, power. I learned these from the remote and put them in KM and everythng works. I then tried to learn a couple other needed keys and I cant get then to work. I noticed that the ones that work use the Sony 12 protocol and the one that dont use Sony 15 protocol. I am using the Sony 12/15 protocol on KM.
BTW I have the 2117 remote. On the ones that dont work there is also another protocol ANSYNC5:446, What do I do with that? Along with the Sony 15 it uses device 144 should I put that in KM also. I have tried it and it still doesn't work. I hope this makes sense. help is alsways appreciated!!

It sounds like those are DSP commands. Here is an explanation. There are some device upgrades that Rob did in the files for Sony DSP commands.

I tried to install the device upgrade you suggested in the above post . I get an illegal character pop up box in IR. I downloaded it , went to Km and loaded it. I then copied it and went to IR. I removed my device then added the new one only to get an error message. What am I doing wrong? I have done this several times without an error. Thanks for the help, Doug

Are you using the latest version of IR? The upgrade creates a key move when the remote is changes to the 2117. If you're using the recent KM with an old IR, the embedded notes will cause that invalid character error. I don't see anything else that might be causing that behavior.

I am using Km 8.23 and Ir 4.02. I am copying the whole field in the Device upgrade/key move section then I try to paste it into Ir but then the error code illegal character pops up. Have you tried it to verify my problem? Do I have the most current software?- Thanks

It looks like the current IR is 5.06

Version 4 of IR does not work with the embeded notes now generated by KM.

You can still use IR 4.02, but you will need to select the [ ] DISABLE Embedded Notes checkbox located under the upgrade code block on KM's Setup sheet.

I upgraded to 5.06 and now it accepts it, although it doen't appear the 895 and 995 are compatable, but thank you anyway!!!

Did you copy and paste both the device and protocol upgrade into IR?

I got it to work, I had to change the device 1 to 16 and device 2 to 144
I also changed amp to tuner and code to 1158. It works fine now. Thanks for all the help, Doug

I had some functions working with device 1 as 16. When I learned some other functions it was device 144. I just changed the values to what worked with my remote.

Hi, I just came across this thread... I have an 895 with no remote that I am about to upgrade a URC-8910 to work with... I was going to use the 995 upgrade file that is in the file download, does this upgrade file not work correctly for the 895 as is?

I ask because the RM-PP412 remote is used for all the Sony DE-STRX95 (595/695/895/995) receivers so it would seem odd that an upgrade for one of them would not work for all of them..

Just trying to figure out everything I'll need to do to get the remote to work right with my 895. Thanks.

I downloaded a device upgrade for the 895 in Yahoo. It works with the 2117 remote. I dont know if it will work with your remote but I would think that you should be able to modify KM to suit your remote. An expert will be able to tell you if it would work. Let me know it it works or not.
