Basic Question Extender Readme for 15-1995

I'm not sure what the readme file means when it says:

"1. Replace the RDF in your IR directory with the one in the ZIP file". Since I have been using the unextended RDF, do I rename the extended RDF to what I had been using? When I tried loading my IR file without renaming it, it kept losing my saved configurations.

and also:

"5. Set up a key move (with any EFC or hex code) to call Misc Audio 2001." I assume I do this under the keymoves tab, but there are only two assigned functions in this device, so do I use the EFC (or hex) for one of those? Does that "call Misc Audio 2001"?

You do not need to rename the basic RDF since it has a different name than the extender RDF. More than likely the extender RDF in the ZIP file is old so use the extender RDF from the RDF distribution zip file.

Yes, just setup a keymove using the device type and device number and put any number as the button value (hex or EFC does not matter). Then when you press the button it will execute the Misc Audio 2001 device/protocol.

Thanks, Nils. I will give it a try again, but I still don't understand about the .rdf file. If I try to open my saved IR file (that I developed with the unextended rdf), and then try to switch rdf's, I lose all my data. Do I have to build the file from scratch after loading the extender, or am I doing something stupid?

You can't "switch" RDF's without losing data since the only way is via File, New, or by loading a previously saved extender config. Either will overwrite whatever current data is in IR.

According to the extender installation notes, you need to add the appropriate device and protocol upgrade code to your CURRENT configuration, setup the required key move, upload it to the remote, and activate it. I think that the NEXT time you download from the remote, IR will recognize that its now the extender and will select/use the proper RDF.

3. Add this device:...

4. Load in the following protocol:

For 09A99 15-1995's...
For 07A00, 08A00, 09A00 15-1995's...

5. Set up a key move (with any EFC or hex code) to call Misc Audio 2001.

6. Save your configuration...

7. Load it into your remote and use your key move to activate the
extender. You can tell the extender is loaded because when you press
a button, both the AM & PM indicators light on the LCD.

I think that the NEXT time you download from the remote, IR will recognize that it's now "extended" and will select/use the proper RDF.

I was able to add the extender to my current RDF file (as another device) just like you said. It's totally cool and is working great now, thanks a bunch!! And yes, when I downloaded from the remote after making the change (first removed the old rdf file from the directory), it asked which rdf file to use. after selecting the extened rdf, I got a checksum error, and another message, but I clicked ok and nevertheless, it's working.

The readme wasn't very clear about the procedure (although now that I know how to do it it doesn't appear that hard), so I would have been struggling for a long time, or given up without your help. Thanks again!
