Weird RMIR behaviour - 2 Roku upgrades

If you have corrupted firmware, you will want to replace the TV while it is still new.

I am interested because I've never heard of RMIR doing that before, and I am having trouble believing that it's doing it now. We can leave it as is, and I'll just assume it's user error, or you can post the files as I requested, and I'll look into it.

Well, I don't know what's going on but here's a video that I captured from my screen which clearly shows what I'm talking about (sorry, I tried to upload it to the Diagnostics area but it was too big even after zipping).

Unless I'm hallucinating, it's behaving on my computer exactly as I've described.

I started by opening the same RMIR file I uploaded here yesterday and then this upgrade - which I redownloaded just to be sure.

What version of RMIR are you using? I'm using v3.1.14, which is a couple of versions out-of-date.

I think Graham will have to speak to this.

Just out of curiosity, did you try opening the RMIR file that I created, and if so, are the 2 Roku upgrades look ok to you?

Yes, I opened the RMIR you sent and everything looked fine - although I didn't actually test anything tbh - but the protocol parameters appeared correct. Out of curiosity, I deleted the Roku 4.251 device and re-added it, and it displayed the same behavior as in my video.

I just downloaded v3.2.0 and tried it again and it still works fine. Could it be your Java version? When I go to Help > About I see that I have java.version = "20.0.1"

Is this on Windows 10? Because when I look at "About" in the Java Control Panel it says "Version 8 Update 451 (build 1.8.0_451-b10)"



and if I "Check for updates" it says "You already have the latest Java platform on this system". Am I looking in the wrong place?

I do remember updating it in the last few months for some other app.

UPDATE: It looks like I do have the latest Java runtime, which is Version 8 as opposed to the Developer release (which is at v.24).

Please see Guide to Java Versions and Features, which is also listed in the links at the end of the RMIR v3.2 Announcement. Oracle made major changes to Java, including its licensing rules, with the advent of Java 9. There is now only the Developer jdk, a separate run-time ended with Java 8, so if you want the latest Java then it is Java 24. I am currently using Java 24 for RMIR but RMIR is still built with Java 8 so that it will run with any Java from Java 8 onwards.

I strongly recommend that you update to Java 24, or indeed any of the more recent versions.

The Java Update tab is telling me (yesterday) that 8 is the highest version available. And I thought that I added a higher version, but I do not see it.

I may be wrong, but t appears to me that the JRE is numbered differently than the SDK and that v.8 is indeed the latest.

I take that back, I just found this page.

I'm tied up right now but should I try installing that later or hold off for now, since v.8 is supposed to be fine? And why doesn't the "Update now" button in the Java CP find the newer version?

It looks like your version of Java is up to date, and more up to date than mine, so I don't think that's it. You'll need Graham's help to sort this one out.

Because Oracle changed everything from Java 9 onward, including any links such as "Update now".
