I'm new to JP1.x programming. I have a Charter OCAP 4-Device URC1060 (367803) JP1.4 remote. Thanks to all the help from this forum, I'm able to download successfully from the remote using the latest version of RMIR. After I made some simple changes to the layout in RMIR (e.g. enter different setup code and reassign the CBL button to DVD), then upload it back to the remote. It went without any error message. But when I re-download from the remote, it's still the original factory settings and codes.
I then entered some different device setup codes to the remote using the SETUP button procedure. I then downloaded from the remote using RMIR and can confirm that the setup codes did change. But after I upload anything back to the remote using RMIR and download again, it has gone back to the original factory settings and codes.
So looks like RMIR is writing back to the remote, but always write back the original factory settings and codes, not the new settings and codes.
I have tried with or without battery in the remote. The rmaster.err files shows successful upload. My JP1.x cable works fine with another remote.
Could this remote be locked for JP1 programming? Can anyone let me know what could be the culprit? I really appreciate the help. Thanks so much!!

Is Remote Master in a folder like My Documents or on the root, i.e., C:\? |

Is it reverting back to factory, or just to how you had it previously? What I mean by that is, let's say the default DVD code is DVD/1234, and suppose you change that to DVD/2345 on the remote itself, then you download using RMIR and witness that the DVD code is DVD/2345, you made some changes and reload using RMIR, does the DVD button change to 2345 or 1234? _________________ Rob

Wow, you guys are amazing! Reply so quickly:-)
I'm using RMIR on a Mac in Java environment. The RMIR program is in a folder.
Every time I try to upload back to the remote, no matter what change, it always revert back to factory setting. So it always goes back to DVD/1234 whenever I do an upload no matter what I changed the code to.
This same setup and cable works flawlessly with another URC JP1.x remote. |

That tells me that the upload is working, but it's being rejected by the remote, which in turn implies that the checksum is wrong.
Try this, find the RDF in the RDF folder of your RMIR installation, then open it using Notepad. Look for the following entry and try changing the /2 to /4. Then try uploading to your remote again.
[Checksums]
^$0000:$0002..$15FF/2 _________________ Rob

Tried changing the checksums in the RDF from $15FF/2 to $15FF/4. Still the same issue. To provide more detail, the original faculty setting from the remote download is this:
TV/TV/0047
CBL/CBL/1877
DVD/VIDEO/0503
AUX/AUDIO/1023
I can change the codes or do key moves using the SETUP button procedure on the remote itself. But once you connect the remote to JP1 and do an upload, it always revert back to the factory setting above.
Here's the output of the rmaster.err file content if it helps. I did a download, changed CBL/CBL/1877 to CBL/VIDEO/1516, then upload to the remote, then download again. The change does not show up.
There are some JAVA errors in there. Not sure if it makes any difference, because the upload works for another JP1.x remote.

All the evidence seems to be that the upload is working, but it is being rejected by the remote. I looked for the original thread where the RDF was created for this remote and I see that the OP never responded back to let us know if the RDF worked or not, so I have to assume there is an issue in the RDF.

The only thing that I can think of to change is the checksum, and the original data from the remote was inconclusive regarding whether /2 or /4 was the right option. As that hasn't fixed your issue, I don't know how to proceed. There are a couple of other experts here that might be able to help, so hopefully they notice this thread. _________________ Rob

Rob, thanks so much for the follow up. I really appreciate it.
For now, I will just customize the keys using key movers. But JP1.x is so much easier. The only limitation is that I cannot use the CBL mode to control other devices, because this remote does not support the 9-9-2 command. |

Curiosity try adding $0E $0F to the segment types in the RDF and do a download and see if those segments are there _________________ Randy |

I added $0E $0F to segment types in the RDF and did a download. I do not see any 0E or 0F segments in segment editor. I only see four 00 segments, one 13 segment, one 17 segment and one 1A segment. |

I did not expect the 0E or 0F segments to be there but I thought it would be worth looking anyway
I have no other ideas _________________ Randy |

If you want to see what's in the memory, without RMIR changing it, do a raw download from the remote. _________________ Rob

Dude, you have to learn how to load files up to the file section, so I don't have to keep moving them there for you. _________________ Rob
