I got some new toys a year ago but have been busy with other stuff so I just used the factory remotes. Now that I have some timeI have been working on updating my XSight configuration to deal with them.

Anyway, I downloaded a few of the Samsung files and none of them seem to work. So I tried to learn a few buttons from the Samsung remote on the XSight and they won't learn.


does that new TV use something other than IR for its remote? Or is the XSight a lousy learning platform? (I used to use an IR Widget running on a virtual machine with Windows on my Mac but an update to MACOS made my Parallels not work anymore so I have to revert back to the remote!)


anyone dealt with this (1-year old model) TV?

Look at the OEM remote sending a signal using a digital camera, that will tell you if it's IR or not.

I checked in with UEI and they say this TV uses the standard Samsung IR signals, so you should be at least able to get started with one of the Samsung upgrades from the file section. They did mention that Samsung has been using BLE "smart" remotes for quite a while so they were not surprised that you couldn?t learn anything from it.

My new Samsung TVs do Not send IR, the remotes were paired, so I assume they are bluetooth. I went through the exhausting task of working my way through the Samsung master file to find working codes. My upgrade is in the TV section.


Samsung S90D Series OLED 4K UHD Smart TV (2024)


I really hate to use the OEM remote, I don't know how you could get by without the universal. Even then automating some things that you do everyday has been a nightmare.

My DH can't hear, but is still refusing to believe it so if we are watching tv together I need to turn on closed captioning, or he can't follow the show.

The Caption/On /Off is buried at different places in the menu. Finding a reliable path to that function was extremely difficult.

The CC button from my non-smart Samsungs, takes you into the accessibility menu, with VOICE OVER and then listening to those voice over commands while you work your way down the menu.

The CC function is also on the QUICK MENU. That menu is context sensitive and depending on the settings you have set, CC is in a different place in the menu. Fortunately you can edit the quick menu and move CC to a position where it doesn't is in the same place no matter which settings you currently are using.

We recently bought a S90D, and I've used your upgrade. Ours does respond to Discrete Off (your notes say that yours does not). Our S90D is model QN77S90DAFXZA, with software T-PTMDAKUC-1301.1. Ours updated the software automatically, but I see that is an option. Discrete Power functions are pretty important to our setup, because we use an old audio receiver and Bluray player and I don't want the power states to get out of sync.

I am STILL working on this STUPID smart TV. The biggest problem is that it hates working with a Roku. Every time I switched to the Roku, by any method, discretes or walking through the menu, the TV would send a PLAY command from .5 to 5 seconds after I switched to the input even with CEC turned off.

Of course when there is an ad, on the left hand side of the Roku home screen, the Roku was installing the app and then playing the featured program. If I was quick on the draw it would start whatever app was in focus. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I finally found that if you unplug the Roku from the TV and unplug the TV and restart the TV and then you plug the ROKU, but don't let it go through the whole recognition the device is a Roku, the TV won't issue the PLAY. It took me three months, customer support was of no help at all.

Now if I could just get the TV to actually change channels from the program guide, I'd be happy. If the time is off on the station you are watching or maybe the station you are tuning when you pick from the guide, it goes into a "details loop". The dumb version and even the old smart version didn't care, the guide might be wrong, but the channel would change. Not the OEM remote doesn't even have numbers on it, so if you were not using a universal, as intended by the manufacturer changing the channel is pure torture unless you want to talk to the TV.

Roku's cannot be controlled by CEC, like from Tv oem remote. Fire tv sticks can, but Roku never. Roku's can control other devices like tv's and avr's. So, this Roku play command has to be IR, but why is it happening? You Samsung remote is Bluetooth, right? The Samsung tv itself may accept both IR and Bluetooth, the oem remote is strictly Bluetooth. We have 75" 7000 Samsung in the living room, it belongs to Niece's husband.

I tried moving my Roku to all the different Hdmi ports. When you plug it in in goes through some sort of recognition and shows up as a little square labeled Roku.

If I highlighted the Roku on the Home screen and hit ok on the tv oem remote or using an IR remote the roku acted like a play button was received

If I used the input command on my IR remote and issued an HDMI discrete code or highlighted the Roku device and pressed ok , the roku acted like a play was sent.

Heck if I turned on the TV and the Roku was the ?last viewed? and left on the home screen, the roku would act like a play command was sent in the preview pane and the ?featured? show would play, installing the app if necessary.


The 4th time i did the connection reset and started over I plugged two HDMi cables in at the same time, the Tv didn?t recognize the Roku. It just says HDMI 3, and the whole PLAY problem went away.

So it is not the IR signal, its not the bluetooth oem remote thats the culprit.

Go into the Roku settings> system> control other devices> uncheck the 1-touch play box. Read the paragraph beside it.

Even with One Touch off on the Roku and CEC and Input Signal Plus turned off on the Samsung, I still was getting the behavior that a PLAY command was being sent when the Samsung KNEW it was a Roku.

In fact when the TV knew it was a Roku, one touch didn't work. It would turn the TV on, but it would not switch inputs.

After I saw that the annoying "PLAY" behavior disappeared when the Roku was no longer recognized and labeled as a Roku, I was able to turn all those features on, and the TV will automatically switch to HDMI 3 if I press the Home button on the Roku OEM remote or my OFA remote.

I was wondering if this was coming from jp1 remote, and maybe in the past you programmed the play command as discrete on to switch to roku?

No. Definitely not coming from the remote as it did it with the oem bluetooth remote too. The problem miraculously disappeared after re attaching the Roku into the TV while also plugging in the Bluray. player and the Roku was not recognized as a Roku.
