New Xsight Touch Remote

Since EZ-RC has closed down, JP1 is your only option to get these remotes upgrades. We will (eventually) support all remotes formerly supported by EZ-RC, including the Moster Revolution 200.

Well I just got my new Xsight Touch because my old one isn't working that well anymore. I found a new one on Ebay. Only thing, the old one is One For All and this one is Acoustic Research.
What is the easiest way to get all my settings from the old one into the new one? Backup first and then transfer to new remote?
Which program do I need for that? Rmir?

Yes, just plug it in, let it update the firmware, then load your existing config into it in RMIR. They all are compatible with the same file no matter the brand/model.

Yes but I have to download the config from my remote first with Rmir?

Is that a problem? Were you hoping to copy the contents from the old remote to the new remote without using RMIR?

I suppose you could transplant the memory chip will the proper skills and tools. But RMIR will be easier.

well I think there was a missunderstanding. I only meant to say that I must have the config from my old remote on my pc first before i can transfer it to the the new one. That wasn't in the instructions mdavej gave.

But I managed to have the new remote working. It was very easy. I only didn't find anything about the firmware. How can I do that? By the way there is a slight difference in the settings where you can set the language and time. In the new one I have 2 extra options, DirectV RF (which I can't use) and Tilt On/Off. Also The new remote is beeping. I can't remember my old one did this. But the speaker came off so I guess that is why it doesn't work anymore. The sound option is also turned on on the old one.

Another thing. This new remote has the sticky part in the middle. I think I was able to remove it on the old one but I can't remember how I did that. What is the best and most succesful way to do that?

If you do a DOWNLOAD from the NEW remote, it will ask you if you want to update the firmware, unless it is already up-to-date (which it won't be if this really is a brand new XSight). Note that this only happens on a download, so if all you have done is upload your old configuration, you won't have got this message.

I downloaded the config from both remote. I only got a message that I should run Rmir in administration mode the first time connected. After I downloaded both remotees I uploaded the old config to the new one. I didn't get a message for downloading firmware. But like I said in my previous message there is a difference. You see other release nummers in the about section. The acoustic research seems a bit newer.

As you've been a JP1 user for over 4 years, I'm guessing that Dave just assumed that you've already downloaded your old remote's configuration by now, which is why he didn't explicitly call that step out.

Yes I had one on my pc but I changed some settings later. That is why I downloaded from the old remote first.

Do you know if there is trick for the sticky part in the middle of the remote?

For the settings differences (beep, tilt, etc.), those can be changed on the remote itself. Just dig into the settings menus.

If your activities act weird (end on the wrong screen), you'll need to do the firmware update. If not, you're fine without it.

There are many solutions for the sticky. You can coat with talc (baby powder) or chemically remove. I haven't tried it myself, but many folks say gasoline works great. Wear gloves of course and be careful.

It is not that the settings are different. 2 of them are in the new one but not in the old remote. The beep is in both, but it doesn't work in the old.

I removed the sticky coating on the old remote, but I don't know how I did it. I find it a bit annoying. Especially on the back.
So far, I didn't experience anything weird with the activities

@tajvdz

You got your new XSight Touch on Ebay. Was it in its original packaging? It is looking as if your remote already has up-to-date firmware, which suggests that it has been used and at some time the firmware was upgraded by a previous user. I am not aware of any XSights that were sold new with the final UEI firmware installed, but I suppose they may exist.

Anyway, here is how you can test whether or not the firmware has been tested by RMIR and found to be up to date. Do a download from it, close RMIR and open the rmaster.err file created in your RMIR installation folder with a text editor. Find the line "Version numbers from remote:" which will be followed by a list whose entries are hex data followed by a filename. That list should be followed by "Upgrade file versions verified" then "Version numbers from upgrade:" and then another list of hex data with filenames.

RMIR checks the version numbers between printing these two lists, so if you get the lists then the remote will have been checked to see if an upgrade is required. No upgrade message means no upgrade required.

If you are not sure about this, post your rmaster.err file in the Diagnosis Area of our File Section and post a link to it here. I will then check it to see if all is well.

Yes i got the remote from Ebay. It was supposed to be new but the box was opened and it seemed to be used. There were 3 devices in it. Also the usb cable was missing. But besides this it looked new. I think it was only tested.

I opened the file with notepad and found this:

Absolutely! You don't need to check it as RMIR has done that, but the check it does is that the four-byte version numbers from the upgrade (which is the final upgrade issued by UEI) agrees with bytes 3 through 6 of the longer version numbers from the remote. So your remote is fully up to date.
