It?s not the first time; this has has happened before.

Why can't you reply to the post, is there a forum issue that I need to look into? Also, are you writing your replies in Word or some other external app and then copy/pasting them here? I ask because all of your quotes (') show up as question marks (?).

Hey Rob, not to derail the thread, but I have exactly the same issue when posting from an iPhone. No matter what single quote character I try to use, it throws the SQL engine for a loop and substitutes ?. This has been going on at least a year. I usually just try to remove any special characters and repost. I have no idea what it is about the character set on iOS, but the forum software definitely doesn't like it.

Happy to continue this in another thread and provide test posts.

I always type my posts directly in the edit box on the web page. I tried to include the error message in my previous reply, but it didn?t go, even when enclosed in ?code? tags. I will try to send it to you in a PM.
My PC is momentarily indisposed (I am posting this on an iPad), but I will perform the experiment you proposed tomorrow.

It does seem to relate to special character coding in iOS (or iPad OS).
I was unable to post this reply as long as it contained special characters.

I wonder if Apple has a settings screen where you can change default settings, like what character to use as a single quote symbol, because evidently whatever it's using isn't compatible with this forum.

I'm on a Windows PC and when I type a single quote, I get this: '

But if I do it in Word, for example, and then copy it over, it becomes this: ?

Looks like I found the culprit. Just have to turn off Smart Punctuation. Not so smart after all. Apple says it changes straight quote marks to "curly" ones, whatever that means. They just look slanted when I type them, as does the symbol on the on-screen keyboard no matter what the setting.

Well done, both of you. I've made this post sticky to help us find it next time this pops up.

If you only have one device without discrete off try this instead of toadtog.
In you ?all off? macro select the ?problem? device in the last step.
If the device is on after you run ?all off? just press the power button.
This is what I do with non-extended remotes and my cable box.
Also, if a device doesn?t have discrete off toadtog can get out of sync with the device.

Hey Jim, are you using an Apple device to browse this forum? If so, read this...

PS. I fixed the quote symbols in your post.

I usually enter text in Word and then to prevent funny things I copy the text to notepad.
Notepad converts to plaintext.
Then I copy from notepad and paste to the web form.
My guess is I forgot to copy in the notepad window before doing the paste.
