RS 15-1994 Ext 3 - ran out of device keys - phantom avail ?

Post by dmadison »

Hi, I have a 15-1994 using extender 3. I just picked up a video switcher that I would like to program to a phantom device. Are phantom devices available on the 15-1994 Ext 3 ?? If so, How do I program one ??

Thanks Darryl

I don't think the 15-1994 extender has a phantom device (I'm not certain). But also I don't think you'd want a phantom device for a video switcher.

I don't think you want to put your remote into a mode for giving commands to the video switcher. I think you want one KeyMove in each other device's mode which sends the command to the switcher to get input appropriate to that device mode.

That is most cleanly done by using the same shifted key in each device mode for that KeyMove and then including that shifted key in appropriate macros.

John,

I think I understand your reply. So you are saying to use a KeyMove using a shifted key. Lets say for example I have a VCR and a DVD and they are hooked up to the video switcher. VCR will be input 1 on the switch and DVD will be input 2 on the switch. When I select the device VCR on my remote, I want the VCR device to power on and the video switcher to switch to input 1. When I select the device DVD on my remote, I want to power on the DVD and the video switcher to switch to input 2.

If I select the ADD in the keymove tab of IR, I could put Bound Key: Device: VCR Key:Phantom4 Shift-On and down in Function to perform: Device: put in the "device type" and "setup code" that I assigned for my video switcher. I would then assign the EFC cmd for input 1. I would do the same for my DVD just changing the bound device to DVD and then assign the EFC for input2.

Then in MACRO for my VCR I just add a SHIFT-Phantom4 in the VCR sequence and in my DVD macro also add SHIFT-Phantom4.

Sound about right ??

Thanks Darryl

Sounds right, but I wouldn't use a phantom key unless all the shifted ordinary keys were already taken.

When you first set this up, odds are you made some mistake and it won't work. First question will be: Is something wrong with the KeyMove or is something wrong with the macro.

If you bind the KeyMoves to some shifted ordinary key (for which you didn't have another purpose) then you can test that the KeyMove is right before trying to use it in a macro.

Great info.

I'll give this a try this weekend.

Thanks.
