Roku Device Upgrade: add Tablo App as an available function?

Post by cuthbertdavies »

Hi everyone, nice snow day in NC here! So I am modifying my JP1 remote setup, adding a ROKU Ultra, where I use Hulu Live, Tablo, Amazon and YouTube primarily. I have cut the cable company tie. No more Spectrum.

In The Roku (official) upgrade I downloaded from this site, it has available functions to assign buttons for everything I need EXCEPT Tablo. Is there a way to add Tablo?

I'm guessing some companies pay or paid Roku a royalty to get an EFC code, possibly because they paid to have a pre-programmed button on a remote at some time. Tablo is just not big enough to warrant that.

Yes, the cost is $1 per button, per remote made.

I read that it's more like a million dollars to get your button put on the remote rather than a cut of the sales. Regardless, there are lots more discrete app functions than buttons. So who knows how they make the cut.

If you can't live without it, there's always remote apps on your phone that can launch any Roku app with a little coding.

Another approach is to move your desired app to the first location on the ROKU home screen, then program a macro to be: Home, Home, right, enter. The double Home is in case you were already on the home screen, but scrolled down. This works on a couple of ROKU models that I own. YMMV
