I have a Denon AVR-X3700H which only changes volume by 0.5db at a time. I’m pretty sure there are discrete codes for Volume Up and Down by 1.0db that exist. If I could find those pronto hex (or IR) codes, I can get them added to my Harmony account. I would also like codes for Volume Up and Down by 5db if anyone has them. Thanks.

Doesn’t exist. But you could make some vol buttons with macros that do 2 vol+ and vol- with each press.

eengert, do you have the Pronto hex for the 0.5db version of the volume buttons? I'm pretty sure it could be modified to increase by 1.0db.

Assuming the first 2 codes below are the regular volume buttons for Denon, the 2 subsequent codes are my attempt at making 1.00 db versions.

Device Code: 4.1 Function: 368 - Volume Up (0.50 db version)
0000 0070 0000 0032 0080 0040 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0ACE

Sorry, I haven’t been getting any notifications that there were replies to this topic so I’m just seeing this.

I can try having your codes added to my harmony database and see if they work. How did you generate them?

Could I ask for a few more codes?

- Volume up/down 5.0db
- Speaker Preset Toggle
- Speaker Preset 1
- Speaker Preset 2

This file shows the Kaseikyo codes for the Speaker Preset codes on page 15: https://we.tl/t-jH8h4tc3Pd

Thanks for taking the time to help with this!

Let's see if you can test the codes that I've already posted before I spend time generating any more.

Fair. I've sent the request to Harmony. Sometimes it gets done in a day or two, sometimes it takes a couple of weeks.

I suppose I could figure out how to get into programming JP1 remotes so I could do it myself. Wish I hadn't gotten rid of all my old remotes over the years!

I thought you could add Pronto hex to your Harmony yourself.

Not that I know of. I did find some information that's many years old which talks about a site where you can add a single code by yourself. But I can't see how to make it work with my Elite Hub remote, which I think only works with the mobile app.

You can learn IR commands from other remotes, but you have to have a physical remote to send the IR signal to the Hub for learning.

Lots of Harmony people have a JP1 remote just for that purpose, they program discrete codes, etc into the JP1 and then use it to teach the Harmony.

Yeah, I understand how this would be beneficial. It just looks like a fairly steep learning curve and initial setup. I'm keeping it in my back pocket for now.

I found another interesting solution: https://www.avforums.com/threads/guide-to-getting-pronto-hex-codes-into-your-harmony-remote.1510519/post-25630723

Since the Wifi to IR device is available on Amazon, I've ordered one and can always return it if I can't make it work or decide to go a different direction. Although it may be a bit more expensive than a JP1 remote/cable purchase, it appears to be a simpler process. It looks like once you have the device on your network, you use the software to enter the codes, and then I can use the device to send IR commands to my Harmony for learning.

We'll see which path comes through first - Harmony support or Amazon Prime + Time to setup! I'll report back.

Is the Pronto Hex code generation that you performed for the Volume 1db something that I can learn to do on my own, or is it pretty complex?

JP1 is not as complicated as it may seem. It is capable of a lot more than the average user needs, but that shouldn't stop you from trying it. For your purpose, you wouldn't need to learn about all of the really cool stuff that a JP1 remote can do because you wouldn't be using the remote as a remote, you would just load an upgrade that includes the buttons that you need and then use the JP1 remote to teach the Harmony remote. If need be, we could prepare the relevant file for you so all you literally would need to do is open the file using RMIR and load it into your remote.

The trouble with software that has advanced capabilities is that it often scares off newbies because they think they HAVE to know all that stuff, and that's just not the case. I would say that 90% of JP1 users are only using 10% of what it can do, and that's totally fine.

Would these be decent choices for a remote and cable?

Remote: https://www.amazon.com/One-All-SteriTouch-Antimicrobial-Television/dp/B09ZHM3D9R/
Cable: https://www.tindie.com/products/remotemod/jp1x-usb-programming-cable/

The cable appeals to me because it looks like anything else I buy from eBay/Amazon would require cutting/splicing/gluing to make it work (precisely why this guy is making these cables).

Besides a remote and cable, I just need to install the RMIR software on my Mac and learn to use it?

I'm waiting for the remote and cable to be delivered, but I have RMIR running on my Mac. Could someone tell me the steps I need to follow? I don't want to actually use the JP1 remote to operate my equipment, I just want to use it to teach my Harmony a few IR commands that aren't in the database for my Denon AVR-X3700H. So what's the quickest way of getting the Pronto Hex codes Rob shared into the JP1 remote?

Thanks again for all your help!
