There was one Philips tv I worked on that, to switch it from commercial to home use, I had to press the remote while plugging it in. You stated that EFC 079 put it in this mode so, if you have a key set to EFC 079, try holding that key and then plug in the tv or try exit key while plugging it in.

Turn on the power, then hold "menu" and "enter" and "power" together.

This worked for me on an older RCA TV (which I no longer have)

IIRC, it also turns on test mode if the keys are pressed when the TV is off.

Still in test mode. Thanks for the suggestion.

No go on my model, but thanks for trying!

How does a TV not have a hard reset button or something on it for situations like these? Is it just this TV or is that not a thing in general?

So I was about to call RCA for the 5th time... They kept telling me that tech support would call me back but no one was.

Anyway, I had got another TV in the mean time and forgot what I had tried on the RCA.

I was writing down the model number and other info for when I talked to RCA and what did I find? On the clear lens thing that detects the IR from the remote, was a power button that I never seen. I had looked over the TV many times and did not even notice it!!!

So I held it in and plugged it in and kept holding in the button and lo and behold it booted up normally out of that damn test mode.

So now problem is solved. Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions!

Mitch

Wow, well done Mitch. Could you take a photo of the hidden power button and post it, just to help the next person with this issue?

Always happy to help!

looking at the center lower lip of the TV.

Looking at this close up I can almost see the push button switch mounted on the PCB under the clear plastic cover, but I sure did not notice it earlier!

It is completely obvious that is a push button now!
