Bell VIP5662 Codes for Slinbox SOLO

Post by Bungzilla »

Hello,

I can't seems to find a code for the VIP5662 from Bell. It uses a Bluetooth remote but has an IR version. I have my remote in IR mode and I even have a IR receiver on my PC, but I can't seem to figure out how to get the HEX code. So I could use either the BIN file or a tool that lets me read the IR code so I can build my own BIN please.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

When I Google Bell VIP 5662 to see what it is, I also get hits for Arris VIP5662, so it's possibly a re-brand, so given that, here are 2 Arris VIP units that you could try.

You are correct it is an Arris, I have other Arris devices 2262 and 2502 and the remotes are not at all compatible. The 5662 remote has 3 modes, bluetooth, ONE IR mode that controls the 5662 and another IR mode that works on the 2262 and the 2502. I tested those two BIN files and unfortunately they do not work on the 5662.

LEt's see if our Slingbox expert Alan has anything for the 5662, if he doesn't, are you willing to spend $16 to get this working? If so, buy an OARUSB04G remote and use it to learn the 5662 signals, then we can use that data to create a bin for you.

I was given this file, it's a REN file, but I have no idea how to convert this to a BIN file.

If I open the REN file in a text editor this is the output. Wonder if someone can work their magic on this output.

I don't know what a REN file is, so in order to reverse engineer how to read it, I would need a REN file for a known signal. Are you able to obtain any other REN files, or do you know of a web site where I can download them?

Also, why don't you go ahead and place an order for one of those OARUSB04G remotes from Amazon, they're not shipping things with Prime anymore, because of COVID-19 no doubt, so purchases are taking longer to get to the customers. It's a great remote for the price, so you may end up using it for yourself, but the great part about it is, it comes with a USB cable so you can use it with JP1 right out of the box. You can learn the signals from your Arris remote and send me the data, then I can build you a BIN file.

Is there no way to use my e-home receiver to get that info? I also have Harmony remotes that can learn....hell even my phone is a P30 pro has an IR receiver that I can learn codes from.

I found the following thread on the REM format, but it includes a header section that is missing from your post. Where you given additional data that you didn't share with us?

Wow, this one was a LOT of work, I had to learn how to decode the REM format, then I had to manually convert that REM code into burst times by hand, then I had to try and figure out what protocol it was, because it's not one that I am familiar with. I have determined that it's TDC-38.

The EXIT_LONG, APPS and INFO buttons were malformed so I couldn't decode those. I have created BIN files where I have placed all the buttons on their logical counterparts. PVR, VOD, OPTIONS and SEARCH went on the first 4 "custom" buttons. I did spots gaps in the button sequence, so I have placed all the gap codes on the rest of the custom buttons, on the 5 colored buttons, page+/- and ENTER. So, if the normal buttons work, try all of the other buttons, including the custom buttons on the drop-down menu, to see what they do. Please report back on which custom buttons, etc do anything, then I will modify the upgrade to put them on the correct buttons.

Wow, you have all been busy. I had checked and found the 5662 was not in the database.

However, if your solution does not work then the OP could get his Harmony Remote and learn the codes and I can build a BIN file from that.

IrScrutinizer can import (and decode) REM files, like this. Most signals are not decodable; some decode as TDC-38. Takes a few seconds.

That's an insane amount of work. I have tested, and it's not working, at this point I think that I need to verify some things locally. Also just a side not, i hope this doesn't matter. I have to name the file V2010 for the sling not to give me an error when uploading it. So Monday, i will try and make my way to my office, even though we're supposed to be working from home. Thanks for all the work, I will update this thread on Monday.
