I have a Atlas URC-1056B03 remote control.
In a chart marked as JP1.x
I am experienced to build simple interface circuits, have tools, parts, cables, etc...

Did lots of reading on this forum, the more I read, more confusing things got...

Just want to put together the most simplest connection , looks like PARALLEL is the easiest way to go.....have everything for it !

Question-1: Is the PARALLEL interface works for JP1.x ?
Question-2: What software program to use ? Remote Master, or other ?
Thanks!

After continued with more reading....

Looks like a PARALLEL interface is only for older EEPROM remotes, and I have a FLASH remote

However, what JP1.x exactly means ? x=anything ? 1,2,3,4 ?

Downloaded & installed the latest Remote Master program
In the RDF folder ATLAS 1056B03 is listed, there is even an "extender" for it.

So I start to put together a 1 IC+ few resistors + diodes serial interface board...

The following thread lists everything you need to know about getting an FTDI cable to use as a JP1 cable.

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16360

You can get an FTDI cable for under $4 shipped on ebay:

Rob, did you really mean to post that listing.? I has the wrong connector and isn't even FTDI as far as I can tell, probably Prolific.

This one looks a lot better to me, and shipping usually is only 3 weeks to the US.

Yes, because it's cheap, and I bought one of them myself and can confirm that it works. All of the ebay cables have the wrong connector.

I already have a RS232 TO TTL board with MAX232 chip
9 pin serial connector to PC, and pins with wires to device
Would that work ?

Yeah but at least the individual pin version is usable out of the box.

Regarding cables with the “wrong connector”, you can buy a cheap cable with 6-in-a-row connector and cut and glue it to make your own JP1.2 connector:

See here.

No, it doesn't have the RTS line exposed.

Stick with one of the cables listed here:

I do not have a patience to wait many weeks for a $3 USB cable to arrive from China.....and I do not want to spend more money on this project either.
Then dealing with with fake/not fake and locked/not locked drivers , etc...

Hardware Solution:
I have all the components to put together quickly an IC version of serial interface on the weekend.
74HC266 + 5 resistor+1 capacitor+DB 9 serial connector....simple enough !

What is the serial communication protocol used by JP1.x interfaces ?
(speed, parity,stop,etc...)

Thanks!

If you're not willing to wait for a cable from China, why did you ask if the ebay listing that you found would work, as that's also coming from China and could take as long as Jan 3rd to get here, according to the listing. The only difference that I see is that that cable costs about $1.50 whereas the one that I listed is about $3.50.

If you know how to build a cable, have at it.

the less than 1/2 price cable was tempting to wait for.....although from my experience ,sometimes the ordered and paid Ebay item never arrives Sad

I prefer to use Aliexpress, where the seller always need to provide tracking number, and only gets paid when buyer confirms item arrival.

Now back to my last question, does anybody knows and willing to share, what are the serial protocol setting of JP1.x interfaces ? (baud rate, start bit, stop bit, parity, etc...

Thanks!

We've all been able to buy cheap cables from China for so long, I don't know if anyone remembers those details. But, given that we're using "off the shelf" FTDI cables, can't you just look up the spec on them and follow that?
