I've just bought a OARUSB4G from Amazon.com. It will take a couple of weeks to arrive from the USA to the UK, but even with the postage, works out cheaper than the URC6440 bought in the UK (even if you can find one for sale).

$17.73 including delivery to UK. <£15.

It arrived a lot faster than I expected. Today, in fact! Using the instructions about how to convert an extended URC-6440 rmir file into one for the OARUSB04G, I've got it working perfectly. And it's shiny and new!

The 6440 doesn’t need a JP1 cable at all.

Correct, updated links are always found in this thread:

Right, that was posted in response to the guy asking about getting a 7955 or 7980.

Is there anyone these days selling the cable with the small 2x3 connector already fitted?

I had one from Tommy Tyler years ago but it died so now I'm using the one with six separate connectors held together with insulating tape.

Not that I know of, although DIY Gadget may have some cables.

Did you know that you can buy a bag of 40 of the little 2*3 connectors for $3.80 shipped on ebay. You can then slip the wire terminals out of the individual connectors and then slide them into the 2*3 connector.

With a stash of 40 on hand, you could buy some spare cables and have them ready to go.

I followed that link earlier but they don't ship to the UK.

However on the "chip partner FTDI cable" page there are two other eBay links, one of which does appear to ship to the UK. I'd have to buy 100 but that's OK.

Wow, I hadn't noticed that before, he ships worldwide except for Africa, China, Australia, Sweden, United Kingdom, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Brazil, I wonder what he has against all those countries. It's funny he won't ship to China either and he's in China.

The listing for 100 is only $5 US (about 3 GBP), so that's not too bad.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know if the 7955 or 7980 support macros on device keys? I'm guessing not since they don't have actual device keys just a "devices" key.

If not I guess that just leaves the 1240, 1280 and 2981 as current models with at least four device keys.

Inteset INT-422 has 4 device keys (plus 4 phantom devices for a total of 8). It's been my favorite non-LCD JP1 remote for a decade now.
