Just a heads up
Just put RMIR on a win 8 machine
Ran Setup.vbs Remote Master folder created in start menu but
no shortcuts in it. Shortly thereafter avast antivirus popped up
that it quarantined setup.vbs Went to virus vault and restored setup.vbs
ran again with no problems and shortcuts created and work as expected
Avast must have been oversensitive and over protective

It's pretty common for antivirus programs to block vbs files. I don't know of a better solution than what you did.
