Anyone know that JP1 version the Inteset 422-3 uses?

Inteset's response is that "while the unit has a JP1 connector, they don't support it's use" I did note that the Inteset 422-3 was listed in RMIR's remote list.

Somewhere here I have my old LPT1: cable and somewhere else I have an old windows box that has an LPT1: port... silly me, thought I was not going to have to go down that route ;-)

Nobody supports the use of JP1 but us since it is a hack.

All Intesets are JP1.3 or newer. No problem with any fuctioning JP1.x cable. Your old LPT1 cable definitely won't work.

Bev, what JP1 capable remotes do you have? In all likelihood, unless you have some old remotes still in service, you won't need that LPT1 cable or your old Windows box.

The older style JP1 remotes, the kind that would work with your LPT1 cable, haven't been made or sold in many years, but having said that, I still have several in service.

All JP1 capable remotes sold now are either JP1.x or USB remotes, so they will work with the ebay cable that we recommended or that will work with a standard USB cable.

Yep... the current goal is to obtain a functional JP1.x cable... I have one in front of me, but it appears to be a non starter.

Thanks for the background on the JP1 versions... I still have two functioning JP1 remotes that were programmed using the LPT1 cable, but I am ready to leave them behind when I have working replacements.

I am looking at the used cable currently listed on this site and will likely purchased that unless shipping is prohibitive.

But don't give up on your OARUSB04G too soon, it's a very decent remote and doesn't require a JP1 cable. You could also get a very fancy Nevo C2 on ebay for under $20 shipped and it also doesn't require a JP1 cable.

And are you sure you don't want to do at least a little troubleshooting with your current cable? You probably just have the wrong driver. Post a link to the exact one you bought.

What driver?

None was included in shipment, but, more telling, the pc does not respond when the cable is connected to a usb port.

If there were drivers, I would assume that I would have the option to update them in device manager when the cable achieves a valid connection.

I would also expect (hope) that something like this would (should) use windows default usb drivers.

The vendor has responded once to a trouble ticket only to ask if the device was visible in device manager (despite the fact that the question had been addressed in the original request.) That was three days ago with no follow up response.

Unfortunately you bought the old version without plug and play drivers. I'll post the driver when I get home later this afternoon. That red part at the bottom of his listing points to the newer/better cable.

Dave can confirm, but I think you want the Prolific driver for a DIY JP1.x cable.

That was well hidden.

I found a zip containing this;

But, while it installed, cable is still not functional.

The "check chip version" exe in the zip also comes up empty.

Questions

The Inteset connector does not have any obvious orientation marks... the pin numbers are there, but, assuming that the "notch" on the original JP1 connectors marks pin1, the Inteset header shows pin1 to be opposite (below) that position.

You found the driver I was going to post (TIAO), but some of their cables do use the Prolific driver.

I don't have that cable, but mine shows up under Ports in Win 10.

EDIT: Looks like the TIAO and Prolific drivers are one in the same.

As for the mark for pin 1, there are no guarantees DIY made any attempt to put their pin 1 on that mark. So try both orientations.

That's what I would have expected, but there is no "ports" entry in my device manager.

I installed the 5th package and no go.

I also tried the 3rd package, but windows complained and aborted.

I can't sleep, so, I'm going to tinker for a while and will report back.

I assume the Interset header has worked for someone.

The orientation question is not only "reversing" but, assuming pin one is on the corner with the notch, on the Interset the pin _below_ the notch is marked as "1" on the pcb... that's not just "reversed" but, rather "mirrored"

UEI only configures their 6-pins in one way, the only variable is which way up is it, and most DIY cables don't have pin 1 marked, so basically you try it one way, then rotate it 180 degrees and try it again. There is no "mirrored" possibility.
