1995 Reset...

I just obtained a used 15-1995 and want to do a Mfr Reset. The procedure for LCD remotes that I see most:
1) Hold SETUP till screen reads "CODE SET"
2) Press RECORD
3) Select MFR RESET from the LCD menu.

does not work on the 1995. The manual shows a clear function, but I assume that is an OPS reset (whatever that is). In any case it doesn’t seem to clear anything.

Question 1, does anyone know how to a MFR Reset this remote?

In doing all the searches on this subject, it occurs to me that what I really want to do is clear out all memory. As suggested, I went into IR.exe; Advanced; Purge Memory. However, I get a message that its going to write all FF's and the remote may not work until I do a MFR reset (Question #1 above) so I canceled out.

Question 2, under the circumstances, is it safe to go ahead and do a memory purge?

I also read in the JP1 FAQ:
"You can download a ‘virgin’ memory dump from the files section of the discussion group to upload to your remote if you REALLY want to clear out the EEPROM. "

I could not find any virgin dump files in the Yahoo files section.

Question 3, can anyone be more specific about what/where I should look for a 1995 memory dump file?

Thanks much Mark. I greatly appreciate your time in pointing me to the right place.

I can't tell you how many times I had been to that web site. I even downloaded the "Official" RS manual from there. Completely missed the "Advanced" link. Sorry.

In the interest of increased awareness for other remotes and future situations, please tell me when I may want to use the virgin files and where I might find them, if you don't mind? Will the IR.exe advanced memory clear suffice instead?

You don't really need a "virgin" file (and I'm not sure if one is even available for the 1995) if you've done a full reset, since that will clear everything to the factory defaults.

If you truely want a virgin memory dump, with no garbage data in it, you should use IR's "Advanced > Purge Memory" option, this will load all FFs into the EEPROM, then you will have to do a factory reset in order to do any further JP1 loads/downloads.

If you download right after the factory reset, you will have a virgin image.

The only reason you'd normally want a virgin image is when you're the first person with a brand new remote and you want to try and create an RDF for it.

I see. So anytime you do an IR.exe "Upload to Remote" you are replacing all replaceable eeprom contents with what you see in IR. That is, there is nothing that a full reset touches that IR does not overlay. Right?

You got it. But if for some reason the EEPROM contents become corrupted, you will need to do a full reset before you can do any more JP1 loads/downloads.
