Just beginning & want to interface the 18g to USB PC. Is Flirc IR receiver a good choice? I think it outputs buttons as keyboard strokes (or words?). Is this compatible with your RMIR stuff?
RF is another possibly after I get something working. I read somewhere that the 18g cannot output RF directly to an RF/PC receiver connection, but must use "an RF extender"? . Is this true of Xsight remotes?
Any help please?

All universal RF remotes, including Xsight, only work with their own RF base. Any RF receiver you get for a PC will only work with the remote that came with it.
Many successfully use Flirc receivers with their PCs. It's very flexible and works with any IR signal (including any signal from Xsight). But it requires too much work and configuration for my taste. So I simply use one of the many "MCE" receivers like HP, Lenovo, Rosewill, Ortek, Diamond, etc. Those are plug and play.
All of the above are compatible with Xsight and RMIR.
