URC 6430/6440 - missing protocol

Hi,

I have a Thomson LCD-TV and a Grundig STB (DTR-8720) where I have made learns from original remotes and that is working OK.

If I try to convert into upgrade, however, it brings up an error message for boith these 2 devices saying protocol is not supported. I tried with both an URC 6430 and a 6440. RMIR is v2.03 Alpha 25e.

Looking at it, it seems to have similarities with my learns, but also trying to import this upgrade into 6430 brings error message in RMIR.

Is it possible to get those protocols into the settings for these remotes?

RMIR's ability to convert learned signals directly to an upgrade is only available for simple IR signals. So you'll need to do this manually-- but it isn't difficult or time consuming.

The TV uses the 38KHz variant of RCA. You can copy and paste the decodes into the Device Upgrade Editor. I find it easiest to open two instances of RMIR with one looking at the Learned Signals tab and the other looking at the Device Upgrade Editor. In the DUE, select RCA and enter in 15 in the Device field. Select 38KHz as the frequency. On the learned signal tab, highlight the column of function names for all of the RCA TV signals and copy/paste this into the DUE. Copy the OBC column and paste it. Change the device type to TV, and choose a setup code.

For the XMP signals, make a different upgrade, selecting XMP, and entering 42 as the Device and 17 as the Subdevice. Leave the OEM field blank. Copy and past the columns for the Function names and OBCs as you did for the TV.

Now you should have functioning upgrades.

Umm, another question ;

When I select RCA protocol I get a field "Device Code" where I can put '15' - but there is nowhere to enter frequency as far as I see? Will that be a problem or will the protocol 'default' to 38KHz anyway?

(The XMP upgrade was easy and is now ready to test;-)

I expect that just below "Device Code:", you'll see "Freq:" with a box just to the right. Click on the triangle in the box, and it should drop down choices of 57KHz or 38KHz. The default is 38KHz, but I prefer to explicitly select the frequency.

This is caused by having an old RDF file. The latest files are part of the RMIR download for 2.03 Alpha 28. If you already have Alpha 28, then probably RMIR is pointed at the wrong RDF folder. The RDF should show 00AF:2 in the [Protocols] section.

50% success.

The XMP-upgrade is working smoothly, no problem.
The RCA-upgrade, however, will not work at all.

Can you tell if there is something suspect there?

I downloaded your RMIR file, made a RMDU file for the Thomson upgrade, and loaded it into a OARUSB04G. That's a sister remote of the URC-6430. I captured signals with a Widget, and it seems that it shoots the identical signals as the ones you learned and posted on 3/29. And, existing RCA upgrades have the same OBCs.

So I think it should work in your remote.

Thanks for your work.
It loads and shoots something, when I said it 'dont work' I mean that the TV does not react to the key-presses. Maybe I must use a second learning remote and try to learn from 6430 and compare with the original learns, much like you did.

OK, I have an 6440 also and have repeated what you did;
- install the rca-upgrade in remote A
- remote A can not operate TV
- use remote B to learn from A
- and as you said -> the learns are identical to file in my opening post AND the learned signals on remote B can operate TV even if remote A can not (!)

I have no clue how something like that is possible, but really, these are my observations.
