New Inteset / Insignia / Sanyo / Nexus JP1 remote

If you have a new remote that isn't recognized by RMIR, post the details here so we can help create a new RDF for it. Or, if there is an issue with an existing RDF or map, this is the place.

Cool

this one continues to be my favorite remote these days. I have one that is broken and only one "spare" left. Time to buy more.

But I also guess that we need another RDF to describe the Nexus and label the buttons properly.

Ordered two of them today. I'll check them out and make sure that the Insignia extender works.

Question: When I did the extender for the Radio Shack 15-13x remotes I created a separate signature for each remote so the tools would automatically identify which remote you had. I could do the same for this remote. Useful or not?

The tools would not self-identify the remote when non-extended but the extended remote would because its signature would be unique.

The remotes arrived today and I can confirm:

1: The Nexus remote does come with the JP1.3 pins in it

2: the Nexus remote and the Insignia backlit remote are the same. Same signature (31473147) but have a couple of configuration items and upgrades that are different. None of us care too much about those anyway

3: the Extender activates, functions and deactivates properly.

I can now retire my broken insignia that got dropped and the battery door won't stay closed and a couple of the tabs that hold it together are no good.

Unclemiltie,

Did you implement the unique signatures or modify the RDF? I'm thinking about picking up a couple of these.

Thanks

Is there anything special needed to activate the extender on the 'nexus' variant?

I had no issues programming the 'Nexus' remote with my JP1.3 cable, and the extender seems to load in properly, but I've not been able to get it to activate. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong, or if there is a change that is needed. I'm using extenders on my Atlas and 8910 remotes, but I only seem to muck around with JP1 every couple years, so every time I want to program a new remote, I need to relearn everything from scratch.

Edit: Never mind. I have no idea what I did wrong, but I went back through, with a working RMIR file, imported the extender hex, and uploaded, and now TV/OK activates the extender and long-press on set deactivates it.

I was thinking of doing an RDF for this one, really all you need to do is rename some keys since the keys on the remote are slightly different.

I could build a new version of the extender that changes the signature to be one different than the one for the Insignia if there is a lot of interest. It's pretty simple given the new code base that I have for all of the JP1.3 extenders (that I haven't released yet, sigh)

Don't worry about it. I was just curious. I'll fix up an RDF when I get one.

The only thing different is the buttons, the code appears to be identical, that's why the extender works.

here are the buttons from the RDF that I was using for mine. The only weird thing is that the remote has discrete on/off buttons and I wasn't sure if I would use the Discrete On/Off phantom buttons for this.

If I did the extender with a different signature I would use 3Y473Y47 since the new V3.0 of the extender uses 3X473X47 for the insignia. So if you want to whip that RDF up as well that would be helpful. I can build the extender easily. There is no difference in the V3.0 insignia extender as tehre was in the last V2.x. That's the code base that I used to port all of the other JP1.3 remotes.

Does anyone have a reliable source for a backlit Insignia or Nexus remote. I re-read the last few pages of this thread and didn't see anything so I resorted to googleing NS-RC02U-10A, which is the model number of the last backlit Insignia I was able to order from MCM.

I don't think the NS-RC05A-11 has back-lighting.

Sorry, didn' t see that. Somehow, post subjects are hard to see, but maybe it's just that most of us don't use them, so I'm not used to looking at them.
