I am having problems connecting my URC-7950 remote with the TTL-232R-3V3 serial converter cable. It doesn’t work with RMIR. I am using RemoteMaster v2.02a. I have tried running the JP1 test program. It displays the message
“NO JP1.2/3 COMPATABLE REMOTE FOUND!" When I run the same program with my older JP1.x serial adaptor it displays the message
“FOUND A JP1.2/3 COMPATABLE REMOTE ON COM1!"
"‘Signature is 30293029”
“Memory address is $0600”
“Memory size is $1000 <4096>"
Also the older JP1.x serial adaptor works flawlessly with RemoteMaster.
Remote master is running on Windows XP. This is running under VMware on a Windows 7 laptop. It sounds complicated but this is the only way the company I work for can give us a PC with admin rights without giving us admin rights.
The above results for the JP1 test program were run on the Windows 7 host machine with VMware shut down. I have double checked the pinouts on the JP1 connector. The URC-7950 remote has all the pins numbered on the circuit board.
Can anyone offer a suggestion as to where the problem lies?
The serial converter cable appears as COM5 under the Windows 7 device manager. It also appears under the VMware version of Windows XP. It was purchased from Mouser a few months ago.

I resolved the problem. I accidentally switched pin 2 and pin 6 on the connector. When I resolved this issue it worked without fault. The picture on the PDF of the connector shows the contact insertion side. I assumed it was the pin side. Oh and just so you know I know how to spell cable. The last letter was cut from the post subject.
