JP1 with Reset Button internal to the Remote

Post by Mark2013 »

I purchased a RCA RCRP05BR Cable Replacement Universal Remote from Staples. Under $12. Free shipping. Nice.

I tried to program a Panasonic Plasma TV (model: TC-P50X3 and mfg. April -2011 - code is: 0250). The remote took the code, but would not change channels. I used the "Learning" to program Ch. Up and Ch. Down. Then I had to program a Yamaha AV (HTR-5750) (code is: 0376). Remote now turns AV on, but not off. I program the "OFF" button. And vol Up and Down. All is working for me. Power for 2 devices, on and off. TV channels Up and Down. Volume UP and DOWN. Next I try to make the Yamaha "Mute" button work. This "blows up" the remote. Now every key pressed flashed LED for 10 seconds. This indicates an eeprom memory failure, according to instruction sheet. I take the batteries out of the remote overnight. Try again this morning. No success. Call RCA, only to get no help.

Please refer me to JP1 Remotes that have an internal reset button or switch, that "zeros" out the memory, so I can start fresh.

Try a 981 Reset

The TV channel issue is Cable Punch through

The Yamaha On/Off issue can be handled, but lets first get the remote up and running.

Uh-oh! I forgot to say that this RCA Remote is used for/with a tv antenna (over the air) reception. We don't have a cable box. It was purchased as Staples had it for $8 less than the nearest competitor.

On the + front, the 9-8-5 did the reset.

As for the Punch Through (Sonny Liston?, Sugar Ray Leonard?), does it mean that I am to set up the Remote with a CBL key/button anyway? Sorry, I'm so new at this, I'm lost before we even get started.

I will try the Punch Through - it can do no harm and even if I mess it up, I can do the hard reset. Thank you.

Hope you meant 981.

hahah, This remote comes preset for the channels keys to control the cable box, you just need to turn that feature off. It is outlined in the brochure that came with your remote, but the procedure may be wrong, depending on when the documentation was printed.

As for the Yamaha, first you want to find the "best fit" as there are many similar setup codes. Most newbies stop at the first code that shows a reaction, which may or may not be the best code. Try all of these codes to see if you get more functionality.

To reiterate:

VOXX RCA TV Remote RCRP05BR (Instruction doc. date 2013)

Device Codes: Panasonic - Plasma
0250 – 0650 – 1480 – 0162 – 1941 – 1946

I also tried all the other codes that came on the Code Sheet with the package. Whether it was a "Combo" code, TV code, Amplifier, CableBox and none of them work. Strange indeed.

Yamaha HTR-5750 (Amp & Radio)
0176 – 0186 – 0376 – 1176 – 1275 – 1331 – 1375 – 1376 – 1476 – 1815 – 2061

I had tried all of the above "codes" before reading your post #3 above. None worked properly. If I get really brave, I may try those.

Following your words about turning the cable box feature to "Off". That seems to have solved my problems. I can change channel and volume (on the Yamaha amp). The remote will not turn the TV or Amp on or off, but that's OK.

A great big THANK YOU to VickyG2003 and to this group of profoundly dedicated folks at JP1.
