I think you've done it. It still flashes fast in all modes but everything seems to work.

Will my Upgrade for the 3039 unit work in RMIR or must I use IR with it?

Yes, RMIR can accept a *.ir file. In fact, I loaded the one Vicky made for you into RMIR in order to do the conversion to the 2556 remote.
