What is the best way to change an rmdu's protocol?

I have been working with an rmdu that uses the RC5/RC6 Combo protocol. After testing, I found that none of the RC5 commands work on the TV.

However, when I change the protocol to RC6, all of the function values are cleared even though all of the RC5 commands have been manually deleted.

I'm guessing that the easiest approach is to edit the rmdu file to change the protocol lines.

That's always been one of the main drawbacks of RM vs. KM, so you do have to be careful when changing the protocol, especially if you haven't saved the file yet.

You may need to cut & paste the OBCs, etc over to a spreadsheet, then if they get blanked out when you change the protocol, paste them back.

>> copy/paste <<

Thanks for the clarification.

To pursue a bit further...

Withn the original rmdu, I'm assuming these lines are relevant to the Protocol settings

Protocol=01 84
Protocol.name=RC5/6 combo
Protocol.variantName=2
ProtocolParms=0 null null
FixedData=95 30 55 55 55 55 55 55

If I change the protocol from RC5/6 combo to RC-6 (which wipes out all of the function values) and save the rmdu file, these lines change to;

Protocol=00 58
Protocol.name=RC-6
ProtocolParms=null
FixedData=80 00

I'm guessing that opening the original file after all of the RC5 codes have been removed and the rmdu containing only RC6 codes is saved, then editing rmdu with a text editor and replacing these protocol lines would be an option, or, am I missing something?

Thanks in advance,
Beverly Howard

I would strongly advise against editing the RMDU file by hand, it won't give you the results you seek.

>> advise against <<

Good advise except that it is a good way to learn what doesn't work... as I discovered ;-)

Nothing ventured, nothing gained... even when there may be a loss.

Thanks for the confirmation,
