Building an upgrade for my Yamaha rcvr in RM 1.86

Using AMP device type I have very few buttons I can use on remote:
Atlas urc 1054 (extender 1)

Can I use other device types?
they allow more buttons to be used!

I usually just create any new upgrade as cable (and I don't have any cable or satellite devices) unless there's a reason not to.

Then it has to be device type of cable in IR too??

Correct. Use any device type you like so long as you make them match in RM and IR.
