Re: URC-8060 Extender Beta

Post by Nils_Ekberg »

I have uploaded a new version of the Beta Extender 1 for the URC-8060 to the jp1 group file section
URC-8060 Extender 1 Beta
  • This version includes:

    Faster Macros
    Nested macros
Macros on all buttons (except SCREEN)
    Very different device selection
    Pause protocol
    Device Specific Macros
    ToadTog
    Long/Double Keypress
  • This version has 2 issue you need to be aware of:

    1) It should work on version B01 and B02 and quite possibly anything later but I am still working out the dates. The revision can be found in the battery compartment as indicated above by Richard

2 Menu and Guide do not act like the unextended remote you will need to use scroll to scroll through the screens.
See the included ReadMe.txt for details on installing and using the extender.

Post any problems or requests in the thread.

Good luck and have fun :D

Nils,

This is looking MUCH better!

I've not had a long time to test things, but most things are looking good so far.

I've come across one problem (so far, others may yet surface :) ), my TV seems to require a slightly longer power on signal than the 8060 is now giving. I can turn it off using a key or macro without problem, but it will only turn on if I keep the key pressed, and it won't work in a macro unless it is the last key stroke and I keep the key pressed.

I've read the readme and can't see a way to increase the length of the signal that is sent, only a way of introducing a pause between signals which is not what is required. Could you enlighten me as to what I should do.

Thanks for your amazing persistence in getting this going,

Richard

This is kind of typical with extenders since they speed up everything including the signals and effects some protocols. I will look in the code and see if there is any compromise that can be made.

There is however an alternate solution using the "device combiner" in KM. With this you can create an upgrade for the same protocol and in fact it dose not have to be multiple protocols. The feature it provides though is to allow a variable duration which is what holding the button does. Making the duration something like 2 or 3 would cure the problem.

This is just a compromise we may have to make since you were lucky enough to be using one of those protocols. Actually, so am I with my TV

I'll look into using KM to modify the protocol, for now I've found that just executing three ON commands in a row seems to work.

However I've found a bigger problem, the extender does not work fully with the XP Media Centre protocol that I uploaded to the remote via the web. It could be a problem with the protocol or the device upgrade, however it worked with the non extended version. I've uploaded a txt file for you to look at which is here

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jp1/files ... ext1-1.txt

The problem is that some keys work (transmit LED flashes and command is sent), eg Play, 1,2,3,4, etc. but others don't (transmit LED does not flash and no command is sent), e.g. Stop, up, down, left, right.

Any ideas?

Richard

I will take a look at it and see what I can figure out.

Is it the $01FA protocol, and which device does it relate to?

Sorry Nils, I should have said . Its the 012A protocol (the last in the list) which is used by the 1972 DVD device which is assigned to the AUD Device Button.

and this is on the sticker, could it be URC-11-8060-B02?

Have you tried the extender yet or is your PC still at PC World?

Richard, what brand, model etc. is the device it controls. I will see if I can recreate it for you.

PC back in action!!

Downloaded the latest beta 1.3 (I think) from Nils post above and then uploaded, in its basic form, to my 8060. - excellent progress no immediate problems.

I then combined my basic 8060 setup with the new extender file via extinstall.

Took out all my existing macros that came up with the new .txt file.

Added 4 macros & a couple of key moves (proven from my 8810 extender) & very happy to say it works :)

Next I shall try the LKPs & toads from the 8810 & hopefully this will refine the 8060 to the same stage as the 8810.

Will post further with any probs if they appear

It looks like we have a win here. Both Ron and Richard are up and running. And I actually have two versions running - OLD version and NEW version

We have some minor tweaking to do but so far so good.

Richard, I may have found the reason for your none working DVD buttons but I need to test it before I can upload it.

The device is Windows XP Media Centre. I uploaded it to the remote from OFA over the internet as a VCR code 1972 and then modified it to work with the DVD device to get at the track forward and track backward functionality (I have a KM file I created if it would help).

I see the problem. With the extender we lost some keys that are in the same hex range as the X_,V_ etc buttons.

The functions that you have assigned to Rear/Cener for example need to be reassigned to the up/down/left and right arrows in KM. Same with Surround it needs to be reassigned in KM to the OK button. Then reload in IR and I think it will then work.

As an afterthought, this may only work if you put the device on the DVD device. Try it and let me know. I may need to take a different approach to the high buttons in the remote like center and rear.
