While it may heat up to 800 degreess fast, the quality of the solder joint is based upon the ability to heat the whole joint (not just the tip of the iron) to the proper temperature, and then to allow the joint to cool without movement so you don't get a "cold" solder joint.

Disable the RF of a RS 15-2117 by software?
Is it possible with software via an added protocol or some other software method to disable the RF of a Radio Shack 15-2117 remote?
The reason why, is that I have 2 of the remotes, and want to disable it for some devices being used by the remotes when using it to control something in the same room ...

Rob,
Thanks for the clarification. I don't believe there is anywhere which describes that the syntax of the Sony codes given as a 2 part number (telling the definition of what part is device & what is subdevice), but I've read a number of documents having them listed both ways, and understand their ...

Sony Combo code example
Can some one clarify the correct method to fill in codes in KeyMap Master (KM) for the Sony Combo protocol.
For Sony ID 2362 (26.73) and 3162 (29.98 ) which values would you put in the Sony20 subdev1 and Sony20 subdev2 fields on the Setup sheet, and what value would you put in "byte2 d# dev" field ...

IR Keymove tab suggestion
When adding or editing Keymoves in IR.EXE, I'd like to make the fillowing suggestions.
1. It would be nice if OBC codes were shown and entered, just as HEX and EFC's can be.
2. It would be nice if the choices of the EFC/HEX code could be selected with a pull down showing the equivalent button that ...

Possible to run independent RF of multiple RS 15-2117?
Looking at the schematic of the Radio Shack 15-2117, it does not appear to have multiple independent RF channels, without either tuning a variable cap or changing a component.
Has anyone been down this road, and if so, could you supply details if successful?
Thanks,
Ira

When I was in High School, my 1st real job was at Radio Shack. I was a wiz at electronics, and thought I could answer just about everything. The very 1st question I got was;
"Does this include batteries?"
I didn't know. However, I was the person all the other salespeople sent people with questions ...

Tip for creating a JP1 cable
Here's a tip for making the 6 pin end of a JP1 cable that worked for me.
This works for a Radio Shack 15-2116/15-2117 and may not work for all remotes.
For the 6 pin header end, find a 10 pin female header (2 pins x 5 pins), or better yet, take an old serial port interface cable (has a 10-pin ...
