just bought an XSight Lite (URC8610) as it was only a couple of pounds more than a 7557 (£22.99) - my 7555 power button has crapped out and I thought I'd bad flashed my 7780 (now rescued :) )

Well mine is made from an electronic coin mech routing plug and I found I had to bodge together two of them with a 6 pin dual header attached to an idc type plug as the newer URC-7555 and URC-7780 have small apertures and are keyed differently. another benifit over a chopped up EIDE cable is that the connector is longer and easier to grab out of my RCU810 but it works great.

Re: Using JP1.x Interface with a USB-to-Serial Adapter
Since communications between a JP1.x remote and the interface are standard RS232 serial format, it SHOULD be possible to use a USB-to-serial adapter with the interface. This is important, because many members do not have an available serial output on their laptops. And has been mentioned before ...

Now I have a working rdf for my URC-7555 (thanks to Binky123) I've successfully uploaded an upgrade and downloaded from the remote using the USB to Serial cable attached to a JP1.x serial cable.

1st Upgrade corrupted remote
I think as this is a European model that the protocols are likely to be the same as in a 8206 Kameleon. US models don't seem to have the $015e protocol necessary for UK IRDA cable remote emulation.
I tried an upgrade but though it seemed to upload OK when I downloaded from the remote to check it ...

USB to Serial and JP1.2
I can now confirm that the JP1.2 interface works for downloading and uploading with a USB to serial lead.
The lead used was a generic lead with a Prolific PL2303 chipset using the latest Prolific driver files.
Tested with a URC-7555 OFA5 remote.
