OK, that explains what they meant in the manual. Thanks for clarifying.

I have a couple of other types of JP1 that perhaps can do the capturing, I have a 9910 and a Kameleon. However, I will first try to see if something is already in the files section here.

Thank you for the link. I have scanned the cover and the relevant page of my manual. It appears I have the URC-6131nw if the 'w' make the difference.

Interesting, that manual is definitely different than than the one I have. I will see about scanning or copying the verbiage when I get home.

Anyway...since you all are the experts, who am I to argue. Can you point me to the location and instructions of doing these "upgrades". Thank you.

WDTV SMP
several TVs (using different 6131n)
HDMI switch
RoKu (n1000)
MythTV
AVR (Yamaha)
and a few more...

I know some of the files can be found here, but I'm not sure all are.

However, I am a bit confused as the ...

How to capture (Learn) with a URC-6131n

I tried to follow these instructions (i.e. 975), but no constant flashing as it indicated and it is not accepting the OEM remote's signals.

Is there another way to do this for this particular remote?

Parallel is by far the cheapest option, no additional JP1 EEPROM adapter required. Here how:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/files/interfaces/SimpleRev5.pdf

The risk is it won't work on a new computer since parallel is obsolete.

I got the parts from RS and the IDC head from eBay. Have a DB25 cable ...

I'm sorry, I thought you were asking about the Nokia cable right above your initial post. I would not recommend that. I would recommend the FTDI cable in nejpski's post: http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=108649#108649

You will also have to buy the JP1 EEPROM adapter I linked.

That ...

Yes, any JP1 EEPROM cable or your Nokia cable plus a JP1 EEPROM adapter like this: http://www.diygadget.com/jp1-1-1-1-2-1-3-cables/jp1-2-1-3-to-jp1-adapter.html

You said you soldered the pins, but you also have to solder in an EEPROM chip. Have you done that as well? If not, I'd advise you just ...

No, it will not.

Capn,
Thanks for all the info. I tried the only two Onkyo files (Onkyo TX-SR502.rmdu, Onkyo DV-SP301 DVD.rmdu) I could find and I was planning on using one and adding the above learned button to it but I am not able to use the information I got above.
