"Porting" a RMIR configuration from one remote to

I have used the Atlas OCAP 1056 for a number of years, and updated my RMIR file in the RMIR program to make any adjustments needed.

Now I have obtained a few UR5U-8780L-TWC remotes, and I'm wondering if I can program them with my existing customizations.

The first issue I see is the 8780L has a 4 ...

@The Robman, thanks for the insight. I'm getting back to working on this and trying your suggestion of using "Shifted" keys for the macros.

I have created macros for Shift-TV, Shift-VCR, and Shift-DVD to set the receiver input and set the remote mode.

Thanks @The Robman! I was able to reference the TV Device and Power from keymoves from the other modes. So that part works great.

I tried one further optimization. I wanted to automatically set the AV receiver input when selecting the Device Mode. So when I press the DVD button, the Denon would ...

I understand how to program functions to buttons in the Device Upgrade Editor that opens if I click on Edit while selecting a device row on the Devices tab.
The Device Upgrade Editor has a Functions tab where all the functions of that device are offered, and the Layout tab where they can be ...

I have a new twist on this task.

I'm updating my devices and want to add a new one.
I'd like to delete the TV as a device mode on a button, since it is taking one of the five available.
I don't need any control of the TV other than power.

I want to use the TV button to control the Nvidia Shield ...

Thanks all for the help! From the three 1056B01 remotes I rounded up, we were able to clean the buttons and boards with alcohol, and one works perfectly now. So we're all set for the moment, but I'll be researching what a better long term solution might be.

We studied and considered the 7880, and ...

One of the reasons that I like the urc7880 is that the buttons are not actuated by the rubber button that you push.

Thanks - that does look like a better design. They appear to cost about $45, rather than $15 for a 1056B01, but it might be worth it for longer term less aggravation.
It is only ...

Here are some photos. It seems the buttons press against targets made of conductive ink, not PCB traces.

A microscope shows what seems to be two types of conductive ink. Black for the buttons, and gray for a "jumper" - I suppose cheaper than using a real two-sided ...

I opened one of the 1056B01 remotes with a spudging tool. The buttons have black conductive material on the back that presses against interlaced traces on the PC board. There appears to be some kind of grease on some of the buttons and the PC board below those buttons. No visible corrosion or ...

I'm going to try a cleaning, but it that fails, I will try the ebay listing you found - it appears the remotes are new and have been in a plastic bag since production, so maybe that helps preserve them?

Update - I got a 1056B01 from a family member that was no longer using it.
I read out the programming, saved it, loaded my RMIR file, uploaded it, all without errors and had the expected responses.

This new remote partially works, with a different set of keys responding normally and others doing ...

@mathdon, thanks for the tips. The Amazon seller I linked seems to be confused about what the product it. The listing title and text below are inconsistent. One reviewer gave one star because they received a 1056B01 and they were expecting a 1056B03.

I'll try to find a 1056B01 from somewhere that ...

do a 981 reset on the remote

The symptom was that after my programming, most of the keys didn't work (a few did).

I have the RMIR file, so "MFR Reset - Restore Factory Defaults" is not an issue, and probably a good idea as you advise.
What I see when I try to do 981 reset : I can hold setup ...

The Why is a perceived slight optimization.
The equipment has toggle power commands. I already have a macro to turn everything on and another to turn everything off. Sometimes the dog walks in front of the rack during the macro, or for other reasons the power states get out of sync.

A discrete ...

Using JP1 programming cable again after 7 years

The last time I updated my Atlas OCAP 1056 remote was 2015. Since then, I've upgraded my main computer.

I have a JP1 programming cable with true RS-232. My new computer doesn't have RS-232, but I still have the old computer. I had clean-installed Windows 10 on it for another project. I installed ...
