Yeah all good. The download may be a good start - I'm learning all of this. Presently though I suspect building a circuit is going to be simpler - which is pretty surprising. This is just a remote site, but it has a lot of people with devices on the end of the remotes, so it was with the ask. Thanks!

Yeah, they do, from my reading there are 3 maybe 4 ways a deck can detect a tape is S-VHS including some kind of signal on the tape. My suspicion is that these olds tapes are fooling the player into switching into SVHS mode because of some signal issue. It happens for say 3-5 seconds repeating every ...

So I programmed in the service codes. The enter service mode didn't do anything, which is probably not surprising since I have a JIG mode unit and I think that it enters service mode a different way. But the exit service mode button did give me some kind of status screen that read:

Thanks, I was actually just editing my reply as I see you're the site owner and you're obviously not being obnoxious (wasn't initially apparent). I know you know where I'm coming from when some unknown keyboard warrior keeps second guessing everything you say. Anyway, what I was writing in the edit ...

My problem is that VHS tapes are being detected as S-VHS tapes sometimes for parts of tapes, sometimes for more than that. Just on a few tapes. So I don't think this will fix that?

JVC VCR Service Remote

Hi all, I've been going round in circles trying to program a remote with some service codes to disable S-VHS from being detected on some non S-VHS tapes. I am trying to archive to digital and this problem is making the signal wonky on certain tapes.

I have read quite a bit of info that there is a ...

Just confirming ,this did work with this remote. The difference seems to be getting a serial adapter with RTS pins included. Thanks.

For anyone else coming here for this exact remote, this is the connector I have, though I haven't tested it yet - cable just arrived, so soon!

Thanks, yes I've ordered a cable with RTS, but I'm impatient and have other serial cables. Thought the 1.2 worked without it but seems like I'm wrong. Will take a look at your links thanks.

Or failing that, is JPS 1.2 a standard pinout and can you point me at what that is?

Basic Question about pinouts on OneforAll URC 11-7556

I've plugged this in like it says to in a few places, but the power light is coming on the serial adapter before it's even plugged into the computer.

I've had a look in the remote and the pinout is clearly written as:

12
34
56

According to some info on this site it's apparently a JP1.2 remote ...

You lost me with all that. The only way to do a search within the forum is to click on the search link at the top of this page (under the JP1 Remotes heading), there isn't a search link in my reply message.

I've never used Safari before, and I've never heard of any Mac users having a problem with ...
