I did a reset, and it blinked 4 times. After checking a couple other things, I exited IR and restarted & reloaded the config. On re-load, it asked me about the remote type, and complained about a bad value in the config.

After starting over & reloading, I got the two flashes and it appeared to be ...

After trying this, I tried adding a few devices I had working before.. but they're not working either. So, I probably have some other problem/error effecting this.

I haven't updated my remote in ages. I seem to recall it blinking the LED twice after an update. But, when I do it now, it only blinks ...

Work in Mac OS X?

Is this version of RemoteMaster supposed to work in Mac OS X?

I used a different version, at least a year ago, in Mac OS X, and at that time it didn't require any special setup. I just opened the JAR file and it worked.

Is anything new needed for Mac OS support now?

When I use the "hold" functions, like hold down play/pause for power off, I just get the play/pause effect. It doesn't seem to be recognized as a held button.

Is there any way to control the duration, so it might be recognized?

I'm using this with a Mac Mini (same standard Apple Remote comes with ...

A point to keep in mind is that with Vista you will need to set it to run as administrator for the USB cable to work (oh, and make sure that you have the latest version of the driver (3.x IIRC) as well). I also find that I have to disconnect and reconnect the cable in between each session or it ...

Thanks for all the info!

After some testing this weekend, I managed to get the remote working well with the extender.

I assigned macros to the device keys, so changing system modes no longer requires the shift key..

I also assigned a macro with power toggles to the Power button, and that works ...

Another note on this:

I am using RemoteMaster in Mac OS X (it's a Java app, so it runs directly on Mac OS - which has Java built-in). I wasn't sure if I could Copy & Paste from Mac OS to Windows/Parallels without losing information. But, it works fine.. it must just be simple text that is copied ...

Thanks for the responses. I'm trying to re-assign macros for complete system power to the Power button (i.e. turn on/off the TV, DVD Player, and Stereo with one keypress).

I found info on how to do it in the extender's README

Cloaking with Shift:

I installed the extender, and it appears to be working.. It just takes a while to get used to the device selection (O_PVR, T_TV, etc.)

But, for mapping the Power key, I'm missing a logical leap..

Assigning macro to Power seems like a global operation (no matter what device mode the remote is in ...

Well, my first test was less than stellar. I tried assigning the macros directly to the device and power keys, and none of them work. Apparently with the standard firmware the remote does not allow that (as others mentioned here.. but I tried it to make sure).

I guess I'll have to figure out how to ...

Thanks for all the responses. There are some really good ideas there.

I need to do some testing and see what's possible with and without extenders. I've not used extenders in the past, so that will be a new effort.

Most intuitive device macro setup?

I set up a JP1 remote for my parents, which controls all of their equipment from a single remote. This includes macros for system Power ON/OFF, and Macros to change all inputs for DVD/Tivo/Audio/etc.

The remote I'm using is the URC-6131 DVR Remote, and I set the macros to be triggered by the set ...

Another followup on this..

I recently upgraded to a MacBook Pro, the new Intel Core 2 Duo based system and purchased "Parallels" virtual machine software.

I installed Win2K pro, and ran IR. It appears to be communicating with the remote just fine. USB support is an area where Parallels is ...

I've been using a JP1 interface for a couple years now, and have always dual-booted my Linux server into Windows whenever I needed to update my remote, which is a bit of a pain in the butt.

This thread came up in a search looking for any Mac JP1 updates, so I tried it out. It worked great for me ...
