Thanks for the suggestions. I checked the batteries, they all measured +/- 1.57vdc, which was ok but a bit low for alkaline so I tried new ones with the same results. Leaving the batteries out for 24hrs didn't prove any help in clearing the memory.

Since you only did learns from the buttons in Cable mode, I was only able to map out the cable mode's keymap, but that may be enough. So far, it matches the original Navigator RDF exactly, so I went ahead and modified the STARTER 4 RDF based on that assumption.

I got the IR file to load correctly by removing the remote's batteries for a while, then loading the test file. Whew, feel lucky as I had no idea what was going on.
