Try device 208, OBC 3 or device 80, OBC 106.

I got presumably the same email, basically unreadable since it displays as plaintext but contains lots of HTML.

I had a similar Philips combo unit, the DVD740VR, for a short period of time (it died very quickly). It too had separate commands for the VCR and DVD modes, VCR using RC5, and DVD using RC6. Apparently all the Philips combos work this way.

I never really got to use the two upgrades I made for it ...

There's also System Menu at OBC 77.

I'm missing a few codes from the DVD/VCR code set also, specific to the recorders. I know they exist on remotes out there but I don't know the OBCs.

If I had to guess, I would think the codes would be device 26.98, commands 111 and 112 (the command codes for similar VCR functions), but really the codes could be anywhere in 26.98. Most new codes are 26.98 codes. I doubt they're in 26.73 but it's possible.

If this doesn't get answered soon I'll ...

Try it again. I fixed that bug as well as another that probably wouldn't have come up unless you made a custom IRP (none of the ones in there would have caused the problem).

Here's the next version:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/sony/MakeLearned_b2.zip

It includes the fixes and suggestions John Fine mentioned, except for the IRPanels stuff. I did this quickly, as I won't be able to work on it over the next week, so there's a good chance of bugs.

Regarding the suggestions:

1) Default values: In NEC1 I want to be able to leave subdevice blank. There should be some syntax in the IRP file that says the default value of S = 255- D used only when the user doesn't specify S.
I can add a default= line or something like that in the protocol file ...

New MakeHex-like program using current IRP format

Well, I finally got this thing done enough to actually release it as a beta. It's called MakeLearned, and it's a Java program that generates learned codes, right now only in Pronto format (so it's essentially MakeHex). The big difference is that it uses the current IRP format that John Fine is using ...

Push Setup Menu, go to Setup, then Options, then Command Mode, then select Mode1. It's on page 29 of the manual, which is referenced off the diagram of the remote control on page 119.

It should always be in the setup menu of the player, but I'm not sure if it's always buried in there in the same ...

Actually, the reason 0864 didn't work is probably because the unit is still on the default command mode 3. Change it to mode 1 and 0864 should work.

I see this thread has been bumped up.

Rob is of course correct, in that the codes on my site are OBC codes.

Hopefully this weekend I can learn the codes (finally found a source remote) that are specific to this device, and then I can make an upgrade, assuming Mike doesn't beat me to it.

One of the more common backend systems is called LodgeNet. These usually have very crappy "stick" remotes with tiny square buttons. I learned all the buttons for it one time when I brought one of my JP1 remotes to a hotel that used that system, since it uses a unique NEC1 device and subdevice code ...

Most of the codes that are not unique to this device are on my website on the DVD page here: http://www.hifi-remote.com/sony/Sony_dvd.htm . This should save you some time learning the codes. All the codes you don't find on my site you'll have to learn into your URC-7800, and when you create your ...

Well, I got one of these a couple hours ago. JP1.2 under the battery cover. It has a huge database of codes, and so many Sony codes it will take me a while to go through them all. Probably many are multiple unit codes; there seem to be a lot of these throughout the lists, not just for Sony ...
