Can you confirm whether the wheel that controls the onscreen pointer sends any IR or not?

In any case, our existing LG upgrades should do everything but that, and possibly obviate the need for it since we have additional discrete commands available.

I will play with it some more next weekend ...

And this confirms that it's both an IR and RF remote.

Interesting, thank you! I will have to try it. There's some talk about having to enable it first, I suppose I have to go through the set up process to control a device and then try the IR camera experiment.

This makes it sound like it can output IR:

Please explain how LG Magic Remote AN-MR650A works

Just got a 2017 LG TV 60UJ7700 which came with the LG Magic Remote AN-MR650A. I'm confused about the way the remote works.
http://www.lg.com/uk/tv-accessories/lg-AN-MR650A

It uses some RF to talk to the TV (not sure whether it's Bluetooth, WiFi or some proprietary LG RF protocol).

I do not know ...

How are all these 3 different in terms of features please?

I guess this photo on Amazon is very misleading then:

Question on the backlight color: the Amazon photos show a white backlight but my Inteset backlight is amber. Have they changed it and are there mulitple versions floating around?

What about the Insignia branded version? What color is the backlight on that one?

More of a generic question than specific to this remote: when programming a macro via the remote itself (995, not via the software), is it possible to reference a phantom button in a macro? If so, how? What about an EFC code that is not programmed on a button?

Thanks for the lesson, I'll try it, just to experience it.
How do know what the proper protocol to use is, e.g. Sony20 vs. Combo 12/15/20, or it doesn't really matter as long as the remote works?

I tried this and it works. The Rec button sends the command on the first press if I use the EFC above. So the mystery continues, why is it that when I use a device upgrade file I have to press Rec twice, but with a learned command or EFC code it works on the first press?

Btw, is there a post that ...

So, sirjp1, 3FG has solved the mystery of the broken EFC. Your remote is fine. If you want to prove this to yourself, the appropriate open/close EFC for 21516 on an Inteset is probably 35228. You can always test an EFC without assigning it to a button by simply tapping Setup followed by the code ...

Just want to confirm that your file with the bluray device type set to TV solves the Record button problem. I also changed it back to DVD type and the problem was back, just wanted to make sure. Thank you very much, excellent advice.
I reverted back to the v4 RDF, now I have to go back and fix my ...

Yeah, those codes ended up being way off. 1516 in the Inteset must use a Sony combo protocol instead of Sony20. That makes the EFC codes completely different. There's no point in reverse engineering it when my upgrade and EFCs work if you forget about trying to use the built in code. This file has ...

Extenders don't have this feature. A macro or keymove might also work. Here's something else you can try. Edit your Sony upgrade and change the device type to TV. I tried this on a similar remote and it makes the Rec button work on the first press.

Interesting ideas, I will try them and report ...

Back to the Record button double-push safety feature... Is there a way to disable this "feature"?

I tried some tests:
1. Learned open/close command from original remote onto the Record button. That seems to make it work, the function is sent on the first press, no double press required.
Maybe the ...
