I haven't a lot of experience with the other remotes you mentioned, but I recently bought the OFA 8811 and it is a top notch remote. Very responsive, nice backlighting, plenty of buttons, and learning and macros galore.

My JP1 cable did not have a marking for Pin 1. Luckily, the first time I put it in, I put it in the right way. =)

I purchased an X10 "MP3" remote a while back. Not sure if it does RF, only IR. It came with a little serial port receiver and some software called "BOOM" that let you control the PC with the remote. I found the BOOM software to be extremely lacking, and I ventured into more advanced software called ...

I just recently bought a 8811 w/JP1 from Surf Remote Control web site for $38.95. It works great with my Tivo Series 2. There were a few commands I couldn't find so I had to learn them from the original remote which was a piece of cake. Basically I am only using the JP1 to back up the remote in case ...

My mistake after reading the manual I was under the assumption that you could only learn new commands to the L1-L5 keys at the bottom of the remote. However, I was able to learn to regular keys no problem. I've got my remote set up exactly the way I want it now.

IRMan is a serial infrared receiver for the computer. In combination with a program like UICE, you can use your remote to control the computer. I have a computer hooked up to the Receiver & TV for the purpose of watching movies and listening to music, and I use the 8811 to control Windows and other ...

Is there a tool to learn EFC/OBCs from a remote via IRman?

In other words, a program that will capture the data from IRman and create information that I can use in KM?

Also is there a tool that I could use to extract the EFC/OBC information from an existing setup code in my remote?

Umm, the remote control that I have now doesn't even have "advanced" codes. I had to buy a new remote anyway. $40 for a 8811 with JP1 cable isn't such a bad deal, is it?

I tried that Robman, but there are a gazillion VCR codes, and after the 25th code that didn't fill up all the buttons on the remote, I gave up. The new remote with JP1 was only 40 bucks anyway. No big deal. I'd rather spend the few bucks and be able to do it on the computer.

Custom Remote

I just ordered a URC-8811 with JP1 cable and before I even have it I am curious. How difficult will it be to create a custom setup code from scratch. Basically I want my remote to control the computer so as long as each key has a different signature I can learn every key into the computer. With ...
