That doesn't change the fact that a cause of the issue in your case is bad java installation. The error comes from the java itself, not from the rmir code not being compatible with something.

I'd suggest uninstalling whatever java package you have installed and install either openjdk-8-jre or ...

It's the same java I always had installed when it worked before. It was probably updated, but other than that I hadn't removed it or added one.

Sometime in the last month or so RM quit working. Was running 2.06 build 6 iirc on xubuntu 18.04lts. Not sure when it quit as I don't use it a lot. When run from terminal in linux, I get these warnings. but all 3 (ir, rm, pb) run perfectly with java 10. And in case you missed it in the other thread, thank you.

All is working well now with java 10 and upload and download. All the problem was not knowing which port was which. Removed the added serial card so that won't happen again. Thanks to all.

Still no remotes found, but can confirm it runs ok on ubuntu 18.04 with java 8 or java 10 installed.

Assuming you want to make sure I'm member of the dialout group. I already am.

Oh, I'm not using a usb jp1 cable. I do jnow the difference between usb and rs232 ports. I have 2 of these cables.

Well, I spoke before trying it with a remote. Getting the dreaded No remotes found. Tried different com ports, different jp1.2/3 cables, new batteries, etc. Same remotes I modded many years ago. No problem loading saved rmir files ...
