Why are you making learning ability a requirement? If you're using JP1, learning should just be a tool for capturing codes to build upgrades, and if you still have an RS 15-1994, you can use it to capture new devices.

Upgrade signals are quirky, some worked, some didn't. That is why I picked six codes which were consistently one way or the other as examples to illustrate the problem.

Some player codes translate over to recorders, but not so in this case.

Macros are more difficult with no Discrete On/Off but it appears that is the way the DVD/HDD recorders were built.

Interesting link, TV Guide schedules are going to remain after February. In fact, life may even get better for the owners who encounter problems with incomplete/failed listings today. When the listings fail the the only resort is to set recording times manually.
